Where to start?

Give us a call or schedule an appointment on our “contact” page and we will be most happy to sit with you and go over grave options, mortuaries, marker and monument companies, and more.
Currently we have graves which allow for 12×24” flat grass markers or 18×32” double name flat grass markers. In some sections you may be able to purchase a monument which may have a base of up to 24”x48”. We currently do not have sections for upright single grave markers though we are working on re-plotting some areas to accommodate new upright markers. Benches are also potentially an option and need to be arranged with the Sexton.
What types of markers are available for me and my loved ones?

What are vaults and their sizes?

Full body burials with a casket are required to be placed inside a concrete vault and lid to protect from ground caving and water damage. These vaults are typically 34”x96”x24” and are provided by Mt Olivet Cemetery. For cremation (or ash) graves, we generally require the urn or container of ashes to be placed inside a fiberglass vault which we also provide. The dimensions of the fiberglass vault are 8”Wx12”Hx13”L.

Can I sell a grave or plot I already own?

Yes. Though you can not sell graves back to Mount Olivet at this time, there are online resources for selling your grave to someone else if it is not occupied. There is a $50 fee for processing a grave transfer.
Technically the owner is responsible for their grave as it belongs to them. The perpetual care fee included with all purchases guarantees maintenance of grass and non marker areas. However, it is our pleasure to address any specific issues or requests. Give us a call or let us know how we can make your grave better. We ask for patience as we do not have eyes everywhere and cannot see all issues. We depend on the input and eyes of others to help us keep Mt Olivet beautiful.
Who is responsible for the maintenance of my plot, marker, grave, or monument?

Why are there so many brown or dry spots in the grass?

Our cemetery is over 150 years old and our piping and water distribution systems are ancient. Our water comes from the Red Butte and Emigration Creeks which are affected by drought, fires, and diversion. The water feeds into a reservoir with then feeds our sprinklers. Sadly, our sprinklers become clogged at the ends of their runs nearly every single day the sprinklers are on. This creates a never ending cleaning and unclogging task for our groundskeepers. So if you see a specifically dry section, reach out to us on our contact page and we will address it as soon as we are able.
How do I show proof that I am the heir to a previously purchased and unused grave or plot?

This is a complicated and sensitive situation which we address on a “case by case” protocol. Generally however, if the owner name in our records matches some form of record which you hold and can show your relationship to the original owner; we may proceed. If there are more than one equal heirs to a grave or plot then we will need additional heirs signed consent as well.
Though we do love our furry family, Mount Olivet Cemetery does not allow dogs leashed or unleashed on the grounds for the following reasons: We have a heard of deer living on the grounds and even the sweetest of dogs will chase or bark at them which has led to running deer being injured and disrupting graveside services. What happens to my decorations, flowers, vases, and similar after they are placed on a grave?

Most of the year we keep decorations on graves for 7 days. After 7 days we must remove and discard decorations on graves and markers in order to mow, trim, and water the grounds. If your family has a monument, you may keep the decorations on any portion of the stone where we would not be able to mow. However, if you would like to keep decorations out for longer or have them not discarded, reach out to our office and we will communicate with the team to set aside the decorations if possible. There are no guarantees of decorations.
